Ecological parameter: temperature preference (KLIWA)

Parameter group: habitat related parameters

Explanation:
The KLIWA index is a measure for evaluate the influence of (summer) water temperature on benthic invertebrates. Taxon-specific temperature preferences of benthic invertebrates were derived and based on this a temperature-related index was developed, with which the habitat conditions in streams and rivers influenced by climate change can be assessed (Halle et al., 2016). The focus temperature indicates the temperature preference of the taxon and the specificity (0-10) indicates how narrowly or how unspecifically a taxon is distributed across individual temperature classes. Taxa with high specificity are thus (almost) only found in one temperature class, while those with low specificity react indifferently to temperature and are found in many temperature classes.
