The Operational Taxa List (OTL) is used for assessing the ecological status of German water bodies within the Water Framework Directive. As a first list for our system, we downloaded all reference sequences of all species of all genera, included in the OTL, from BOLD and graded the sequences using the dbSCORE pipeline. While this includes all genera listed in the OTL, many of the species are not listed in the OTL. The sequence data on these additional congeneric species is important for a meaningful analysis of sequence clusters of concordant or discordant taxonomic information. All sequences that were blocked in the process and are listed on the block list accordingly, were excluded from grading reference sequences for the Operational Taxa List.
